I went mostly by feel, so sorry in advance if this sounds confusing:
When you use the grappling hook, you'll pulled towards the target. Without releasing the grappling hook key, use the jump button when the timing is right.
And from what I observed, the timing depends on the stage. On lvl 2, the right timing seems to be around the red zone of the targets. On a specific target in the beginning of lvl 3, you need to grab the target when you are almost going past it, then hold right and jump (and it needs to be done pretty quickly). On the blocks, you need to grab as close to the top edge as possible, and jump when you're around 1~1.5 blocks away from them.
Also, slightly off-topic, but if you grab the edge of a safe/gold block and don't jump, you get a pretty big boost forward when you reach the block
Woke up this morning to find this in my news feed. I jumped out of bed to download and play a bit before work. The 20 min I got to enjoy it already made my day. Thanks so much for this. Celeste has a very special place in my heart <3, and from what little I saw of this one, I'd totally be on board for a sequel. Continue being great.
Though the mechanics are definitely distinct this is certainly a worthy successor to the original in design, polish, and feel. There's a lot more subtlety to the controls than you might notice at first, and while the game forces you to learn them largely by trial and error (much to my death count's dismay) they certainly feel quite good when you understand them and can pull them off well. I do kinda wish there was a way to step back a room since accidentally crossing a boundary can lock you out of certain berries (the semifinal one in particular, which broke my completionist streak); maybe a Retry Level option from the pause menu?
Ended on 14 Berries / 3:16:12 / 2331 Deaths (I can't claim to be good, just persistent)
jump should be x while grapple is c. Its really natural to roll the fingers inward but unnatural outwards. although I wouldn't use x or c in the first place. wasd with k as jump and j as grapple
PICO-8 maps Z and C to the same input (as with X and V) so you could just shift your hand over 1 key and get the same effect, at least on a QWERTY keyboard. Also the mappings are built into PICO-8 itself, so I'm not sure if there's any reasonable way to change them.
Wait you mean this screen? As far as I'm aware it just tells you the inputs and lets you test them. (If you're referring to something else I actually genuinely don't know or see it)
Cool game, and aside from some minor gripes (some of which I also had with the commercial version of Celeste), I think this is really well made. Especially for 3 days worth of work.

Very fun nice getting to know the gimicks and other things the game didnt explain. Overall

You can press the little keyboard on the right of the player to change the controll!

Oh you can config only on PICO-8 on desktop… My bad!
i can not figue out controls on keyboard, can someone help?
Z or C makes you jump
X or V makes you use the character's ability (once you get it)
The left and right arrows move your character around
The up and down arrows don't seem to do anything (you test around with the jump and ability commands to go up and down)
Enter pauses the game and lets you see the options
Also, you need to go a lot by trial and error to learn how the controls work
I suck with keyboard. Does anyone know if a gamepad can be used?
Yes it can
Great mechanics! If you make a full sequel to Celeste, I will give you so much money. All my money.
This was a delight to experience! Keep being awesome!!!
really good stuff
yes
this was nice
Thanks for the game. I stopped getting strawberries after a while because my fingers were protesting. Maybe I should've just used a gamepad.

Very challenging, but very fun. I really like the level design, I can see how well several sections are designed while playing through them.
That falling snowball room is extremely annoying though...
Edit: Found the missing strawberry, turns out I skipped one in level 2 by mistake (upper path in the room with the large drop).
WAIT WHERE ARE THE OTHER BERRIES
I HAVE MAXED AT 14
Holy hell that was rough. It's so good to feel like a novice again. Thanks for reminding us yet again why these games are so great.
I am consistently amazed by how you're able to convey techniques and mechanics without so much as a word of instruction.
Thank you for the experience. I can't wait for what you make next.
Damn that was fun, I guess I missed a lot more berries than I thought.

Love the gameplay with the hook, already trying to be too fancy. Once you figure out you can jump right out of grappling, movement feels really nice.
I love grappling hooks!!
